Integrity at the Core

In the previous episodes in our “I Am Rahab” mini series we’ve talked about seasons of life, risks, sacrifice, identity, labels, and we’ve covered a lot of ground. If you miss any of those, please go back starting on episode 172 and enjoy! Today, we talk about the root of showing all the fruits of the spirit, being salt and light, etc… Integrity. Specifically integrity that chases after the Biblical principles of God.

Fact: having and maintaining integrity is hard work, and at times, inconvenient. It can make us unpopular, seem like we’re making weird financial decisions, build an ark, you get the picture. The point is, if God is telling us to do something, we need to do it, no matter how the world responds. Remember, we’re not of this world, and we’re called to be set apart. That’s where Biblical integrity comes in.

Let your Biblical integrity speak to your character, your core beliefs, and your intentions. People will be able to see what you stand for by your actions and how you respond to life’s situations. We must strive to do the right thing no matter how small it is. Don’t forget that we have an enemy chomping at the bit ready for us to slip up. This is where satan will try to get a foothold. We can choose to stay on track as best we can, and pray we stay in step with the Lord.

Parenting with Integrity

Integrity in the details, and that takes practice in every moment of parenting. Like anyone who wants to reach a goal, take no days off. We get it. This is a crazy challenge, and it would be impossible if it weren’t for God. Thank the Lord the Holy Spirit lives in us, guides us, and can even help us shut our mouths and calm down when needed.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

John 14:26

In this part of episode 182, “Integrity in the Details,” we give several examples of how this looks in parenting. Your followthrough matters on what you say you’ll do. We talk about the general rule of: do what you say you’re going to do and be who you say you are. If you say you’re getting ice cream after dinner, go get it. If you’re going to have your kids clean for five minutes, don’t try to trick them into cleaning for more time. Integrity of your words and actions produces positive results.

Community of Integrity

Wow, having integrity in the details is not for the faint of heart. Both of us (Brooke & Faren) along with our entire home group are dedicated to raising good humans who love and follow God. We help keep each other accountable, keep each other in check, and help carry the load when we need a couple hours to breathe. These are a few of the ways our Christian community leans on each other, and we encourage you to do the same.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

James 1:22
